Birthday Baking

It’s dad’s birthday on Saturday and while it’s still only Wednesday, I will be really busy between now and then, so I’m going to bake today.
Two chocolate brownie marshmallow type slices.

Caramel Peanut Squares and Chocolate Cherry Brownies.
Yum!

The brownies turned out beautifully, very tasty. They would be better if I was able to follow the recipe properly – dark chocolate and real fruit. I used milk chocolate, marshmallows and glacé cherries.  No complaints thought, there is definitely nothing wrong with them.

Caramel Peanut Squares.

Yeah, let’s not talk about those. A very tasty un mitigated failure.
I have no idea what went wrong, I did have to laugh when I saw what happened, but, oh, what to do. The caramel was supposed to be on top, mine somehow went all the way to the bottom, so now it’s a caramel chocolate upside down slice. And the caramel has not set, so it can stay in the fridge over night.
I seriously dislike my oven.

Happy Hump day.

Sunday Baking

What started as Food Friday, and then a vague attempt at Saturday, became Sunday Bake day. And all done in the morning before I went on a very successful retail therapy session with a friend in the afternoon. (Enter 3 scarves, I lurve scarves!, 3 tops & jacket for the wedding).
I blame the end of daylight saving for my productivity, as I almost didn’t couldn’t be bothered when I saw the clock said 8am this morning. Then I remembered it was actually 7 (thank you phone!) and I was re-vitalised. So into the shower and coffee machine on and I was busy busy… and more busy.
I made a chocolate slice with pink icing and marshmallows – Thanks mr 10, white choc chip biscuits (minus the nuts, add extra choc chips) and a choc peppermint slice which is actually choc vanilla slice due to no peppermint essence – again, Thanks mr 10 for choosing this one. Then as I was making quiche my sister rang to say she was visiting mum and dad with her kids and could I pop over. Of course. Shoot, panic stations. Well, this is what we have teenage kids for – they hung the washing and turned off the oven in time – pity they didn’t choose to do the dishes. Ah, but they have to wipe and put it all away now though.
And because it’s mum’s birthday tomorrow, there was cake!

Birthday Baking Frenzy

This gallery contains 10 photos.

As you may remember, my youngest had his birthday last week and I finally got back ” into the kitchen” (my elder two love those kitchen jokes) to do some baking. I was requested to make several things. Mr 8 … Continue reading

And now for something sweet.

A few weeks ago I bought one of my favourite recipe magazines and on the cover is a no-bake Cherry ripe slice.  Son #2 asks if we can make it… of course we can.  So finally, while at the supermarket I remember to get the extra bits needed and today we bake!

Nice.... pink cherry ripe slice 🙂

I’m just not sure if Blue cherry ripe slice is as appealing…. but is in only a colour.

and the Blue one...

It actually tastes pretty good, naughty me, I’d have two pieces already.  It was a toss-up with the blue and green so maybe we try green, then purple, maybe an orange one…

Keep smiling 🙂
