I first read about this from Judith, who wrote an amazing story, then my sister wrote her own amazing story and put the challenge to me (after reading a one-off line in one of my other blog posts which used the words ‘alter ego’ in it…). So, with thanks to the above and originally to Kat Collins, of A Skeptical Optimist, who has created this new writing challenge. In her words:
The Alter Ego
Research the origins (Latin, Greek, biblical, or otherwise) of your first name and develop an alter ego for yourself based upon those origins. If your name is Alex, for example, whose origin, Alexandros, originates from the Greek root “to defend,” your alter ego could be “The Defender.” Free-write for twenty minutes from the perspective of that alter ego, writing about anything that comes to mind—and see what kind of patterns, ideas, or thoughts emerge.
Happy writing, my friends!
My name as you know is Jennifer…. now, according to google which spat up this as the first entry, I jumped on it: The name Jennifer is a Cornish variant of Guinevere, meaning The White Fay or White Ghost (Proto-Celtic *Uindo-seibrā, “white phantom” or “white fairy”……
So the White Ghost I am.
I am the white ghost. I am everywhere but you can’t see me. You know I am there, by the feelings you have and the actions you see.
I am the helping hand on your shoulder. The comforting voice in your head. I am the intuition that guides you.
I am the light that shines your way. I, the white ghost, will show you the way. I am your saviour, your guide.
Ok, so that was my twenty minutes… yeah, that’s all that I got. I had a mental block and just sat staring at the keyboard. Yawn, stretch, go for a walk… ok. I got this feeling and that is what I wrote. My apologies for it being so short. I am normally pretty good at this type of thing, but I gave myself stage fright.. lol. I do like the idea behind what I have and will work on finishing it at some stage.
Keep smiling 🙂
This week, next week, and the week after… as long at it takes I spose.
I wont say I’ve run out of ideas, not at all, but I like a challenge. So what you would like me to talk about. Put my opinion to. Go on.. stretch my mind, get me outside the box.
Give me a subject, reasonably precise please, and I’ll do a post on it. Is there something you want to know about me? Be as controversial as you like. I will try to do justice to each one. Not much is off-limits, but I reserve the right to say no (I hope I don’t have to do that).
I don’t just want a subject like, Animals. That’s too general. More along the lines of ‘What are your favourites’, ‘are you a dog or cat person’. That sort of thing.
I can mumble away to myself composing while I sew bags, make jewellery, do housework and deal with kids. A post a day (where possible) for as many topics as comes my way.
Keep smiling 🙂

this weeks photo challenge was “tools”. How we interpreted that was up to us, and there have been some interesting pictures posted.
My entry incorporates my ipod as a ‘tool’ – without certain tools, one cannot work properly…
my tools (some of them anyway) + the music tool.
Til next weeks photo, keep smiling 🙂
As promised in an earlier post I will show you my pictures for the photo challenge.
Week 2 was our favourite thing… I have too many but a friend suggested to post something that I can’t live without… so the picture was…
my favourite thing? Coffee of course... 🙂
Week 3 was a disaster for me. time Exposure. Some people made some humourous pictures of clocks and the like but I actually wanted to try to do a proper time exposure picture.
Week 4 is FOOD week. Now food I can do. Took a picture of my breakfast the other day, half eaten boiled egg, toast and a coffee but wasn’t overly impressed. Today’s lunch proved much more photogenic….
Food for thought maybe...
I haven’t looked at next weeks challenge, we’ll have to wait til Monday morning to find out.
Til next time, keep smiling 🙂
I have just joined a group on facebook where, over the course of 52 weeks (1 year), we submit a photo we have taken according to the topic of the week.
The challenge of course to take a new picture each week to do with the topic and post it on their wall. Although any ‘old’ picture is fine so long as you took it.
All you need to do is comment with the picture, what the settings where on your camera for all to see. The other few rules are very easy and as there are no winners or judging, it makes it more comfortable for those of us who may not be the best, but who enjoy it none the less. Like me. As my kids will testify to.
The first week topic is a Portrait. And already there are several animals being posted amid some questions on what exactly is a portrait.
I hunted out a recent picture of my second son, a candid, snap-happy-mum picture, that I really like. He is nortorious for hiding away from pictures or being a grumpy bum, so getting a nice picture is great.
Great casual picture, he has a beautiful smile.
Each week I’ll post up a short blog on the topic and picture for you. Another challenge for me – to blog more regulary.
Do you find it a challenge to get pictures of your kids or partners – smiling?
til next time, keep smiling 🙂
