I’ve been marketing

Marketing as in visiting rather than attending. As an attendee I rarely get to actually visit markets these days. I love scouring stalls and hunting through boxes to find that special piece. Piece of what? Whatever. I have become better at this and aren’t just picking things up coz I like them, but really making sure I need them. Makes the purchase even more satisfying.
Markets have changed so much in the last few years. They used to be predominately second hand goods with the ‘fancy stuff’, the hand made items few and far between. Nowadays though, that’s what it’s all about. Hand made, niche markets. There is a place for both no doubt about it.

Back to the beginning, I had a day off form markets, so what did I do? Went of to visit some. A little bit of everything today.
I started this morning with a Farmers Market. I went purely to look as this one has a really good reputation and their website is brilliant. We rocked up (I had mr 9 and eldest’ GF, miss 17) and going on the number of cars it looked promising. I was sorely disappointed with what greeted us. It was a strange set up. The stalls were designed as boutique and almost arty but we were in and out in ten minutes, and that included chatting with a stall holder and buying mr 9 a snack.
Next stop, back tracked 20k. On parking the ‘ladies’ was required, then coffee and a wander. This market is like a huge garage sale/flea market/car boot sale, it is stretched out over a large car park and inside the hall. The inside of the hall, was home to most of the hand crafts, or old lady stuffs.
I asked one lady where I could find the coffee and her response was that there was no restaurant on site. What? So I ask again, which direction, is there a coffee van? Another strange answer, so we leave and head towards the visible food vans.
Once coffee was in hand, we wandered up and down the aisles. I found the best bag! Surprise surprise, pink and bright green tulips, it’s gorgeous, roomy and for $5 an absolute bargain. $1 bought me a tiny pink basket I can use on my own market stall.

Lunch was had starting with Maccas drive through and finishing under a tree in a park where we met up with a friend and her two kidlets. By this time the weather was hotting up, around 27C, which for this time of year is just awesome.

Next stop. , a new boutique market in an outer, Southern Hobart suburb.
It’s coffee time again, and oh, look, I parked right in front of the van. This market is at the other end of the spectrum. Nichey, strict application process, but a full on marketing regime.
And that’s where the fun ended. No vibe, bland looking and very quiet inside the hall. There were some very cool, and definitely different products on sale, but there was still the feel of same same.

And that’s where my day ended. We went home, dropped eldest at work, his GF back home and then collapsed on the couch.

Of course, when you picnic, there are usually some hungry friends wanting to join in….

All systems go…

As my pork slowly cooks to become a tender and juicy meal I have sometime to ponder the week that was and the week that will be.

It all started on Saturday when mum and dad arrived back from their overseas holiday. Mr 9 wanted to have a welcome home party so while hubby and I were collecting them, Mr 14 baked a cake. I ‘entertained’ them while the boys went and decorated their house.
To say they were surprised is an understatement, and it was also to celebrate dad’s birthday which he had while they were away.
As a thank you for looking after their house and doing a few things for them I got a cool retro looking tin of Irish toffee. It’s not a problem.

Yesterday, mum asked me to come and see her. And gave me another pressie. Wow. Check out the best PINK bag. Love it. Awesome, thanks mum!! It’s go a zipper and a flat bottom so is more stable and secure. Comfy handles and an inside pocket for the phone. And it was wrapped in to pink a paper. Brilliant!

And so roomy too. This will definitely be a favourite. Camera, iPad and wallet. Easy.

Sunday was spent with mum at the Craft Fair on its last day here in Hobart, – where I spent a few dollars on some yummy craft items, beads and a book – and then hubby and the kids met me at a friends house for a visit while we delivered a car for loan.

This week has been spent too-ing and fro-ing, some training (in a minute folks) and getting ready for a busy weekend.
There is baking (apple crumble and pizza bases) to be done for an afternoon and dinner with friends on Saturday.
Sunday will be a family get together with my sister and her family and parents. The tables have been booked and I shall be taking my camera with the plan to get some cool pictures. For a birthday celebration or two… (Hubby had his this week).
The weather has been cool and a little wet but is clearing for the weekend so fingers crossed it stays that way.

Next week I’ll be back in paid employment for the five days, (hence the training) which means along with everything else, I’ll be pretty tired – mentally more than physically – I know I know, loads of women do this every day. I’ve just had it easy been a SAHM for too long.
A friend is taking a holiday and there will be two of us taking her place. So between 8 and 5 or thereabouts, I shall be busy. Problem. Term holidays start this Friday and hubby leaves for work on Monday morning, so I have to arrange something for the boys. Let’s see. I think there might be dinner to cook and washing to do and Mr 9 will be sorted with a few friends. I hope.
And when I get home, I may not be in the mood to write anything, or I may not even have anything to write.

The second week of holidays though, I have things planned. A movie day where we all want to watch our own thing (Monsters University, Superman and Pacific Rim) the museum which has been revamped and reopened, catch up with a friend or two, and I’m sure there are few other activities we can organise.

It’s the sort of busy where you are ready to drop and then it just keeps on coming. And the only issue I have with this at this point. Hubby has to leave at stupid o’clock. So getting up at 4, off to the airport, home in time to have breakfast (will be required today more than ever) and a (STRONG) coffee then head to work. And Monday is the busiest day of the week. Wondering if anyone has an IV they don’t mind lending me to drip feed the caffeine…..
I’m not too good at getting up that early and surviving, so I hope my second wind kicks in early, 9am would be good.
The one day I want a decent sleep, and woah, interrupted. At least it doesn’t happen every week, and it wasn’t his choice to make it that early, work plans changed that were out of our control.

In between all the nothingness I feel like I’ve done this week I have been watching the remainder of the first season of Arrow. Love it!! (worth it for the eye candy alone) I don’t watch a lot of tele, but this is one I am loving. I’m gonna miss it when we’re done. But I’ll still have Under the Dome and Elementary to keep me going.

Is it a road trip if its only for 1 night?

Car packed – check. (Mr hook, you would be proud, my awesomeness at packing jigsaws worked again… 😉 lol)
Bags packed – check. Although as the weather is more inclement than first forecast, so some wardrobe changes were needed. One night, 2 small overnight bags.
Snacks/wallet/other stuff – check
Bus tickets for the return trip – omg, where did I put them, shit, now I have to print them again…. what’s in this stack of papers, oh, phew, there they are. CHECK!
Kindle, camera, etc & chargers – check.

Ok, we’re all set, I just have to get the kids off to school and drive over to mums.

This weekend is the Deloraine Craft Fair from Friday 1st to Monday 4th. Mum is attending this year (4.5x3m booth) with her gorgeous silk and dyed scarves, quilts and covered books along with hand dyed materials and I am going up with her today to help set up and then catching a bus home tomorrow. Hubby will meet me in Hobart.
Mum only has a small car, 4 doors and a hatch boot, and we got everything in easily with room to spare for bags. Those ladies we used the other day. Sitting Lying back and centre for all followers to see, in all their naked booby glory…. We’re sure to get a few looks on the highway with them.

If the weather clears up as promised there will be some pictures.

Think I need another coffee before we go. Maybe I can wangle buying one on the way. Driving and coffee work well together.

Have a great day 🙂

MARCATO DESIGNS

Well, after nearly two weeks of work (interrupted of course by other seemingly important this like family and Art Trails) I have finally finished my website.
It has had a total overall: new pages, new products and a new look.
The only thing I haven’t put on it is a shopping cart. I realise that may be shooting myself in the foot, but until I find the funds to get a proper site done up or find a better way to incorporate shipping into it, it will have to wait.
For any sales and enquiries a simple email is all it takes and I can arrange the best price for you (and invoice via PayPal).

Pease wander across and have a look, I’d really appreciate any feedback you can give me (aside from any typos I’m sure I’ve missed) as it can only help in the long run and don’t…

(oops… forgot the title, so here it is ‘updated’)

I have been rather busy this last week.  Not always the way I want to be, but, we can’t always have everything our own way.  I haven’t been able to read a lot of my emails, or blogs, so next time you post I will try to catch up, reading multiples as I get to them.  I try not to let them sit in my inbox for too long, this is how I ended up with over 300 of the suckers.  I did delete many, but as I said, I will return and catch up.

Hubby was home so we took a day trip to the Airwalk (there’ll be a post later on that one), we helped my parents with wood and moving furniture around for my mum’s shop, I started on my Circles project (which got me thinking about something else again) and then there was the general kids, work and weather which wasn’t always playing nice, making it hard to do things we wanted to.

I have a market coming up this weekend which I have been organised for (for once, early) although I will re pack my boxes just to make sure I have everything… some things have changed.

My circles are coming along nicely, the finished product looks like it might actually look good!
This gave me another idea. And now a new way to move forward (I seem to be doing a lot of this lately).
I found that doodling with the paint, and playing with material on a canvas gave me another sense of freedom to explore and express and be creative.  Mixed Media.  That was it.  Doing and making more items that are not strictly jewellery or bags, but could be collage, artwork, wearable art… whatever takes my fancy basically.  And as I have resin, clay and stamping tools I can add all or any of these items in – this is precisely what mixed media is – to make some cool items.

This idea was first sprung when a good FB friend suggested I use some of my nature shots on cards to sell.  She is impressed by my ‘skills’ as a photographer.  My mind then went zooming about at a million miles an hour – as it does anyway – and soon I am thinking “why not?”

I have some more mini canvases that I am going to collage and take to the market this week.  It is a bigger market than my usual one, and going on the first one they had, plenty of people coming through. So plenty of feedback.
I shall become a mixed media artiste. lol.
(At least my business name will cover all avenues I choose to do)

So with that I must fare thee well, and head off to bed.  After the last few nights, and especially yesterday (leave home at 9.30am and return at 10.40pm, with many ‘nothing-to-do’ gaps in between the jobs and not getting to bed for another hour)  I am now feeling weary; and if I am to survive a busy day tomorrow and do my walk at a reasonable hour of the cold winters morning…. zzzz

good morning, good afternoon and good night, for wherever you may be 🙂
