Man of Steel – review

First up, three things that stood out.
Let’s blow up New York/Metropolis again.
The usual overblown American “we can conquer all with firepower even when it’s obvious it won’t work”.
It’s really hard to be comfortable when you have to pee.

When I first saw the preview for this I loved it. It looked really dark and a lot more intense. Yeah, not so much. Darker maybe, but it became another alien movie (without the aliens?!) an interesting take on an old classic, and as usual is left open for another instalment. Same same but different.

The whole krypton thing was too alien like, why do alien planets all look the same these days? Have the designers no imagination anymore. I would say I prefer the 70’s/80’s version better.
My recurring thought here was alien, and all that it entails. Mass destruction from one or two villains hell bent on destroying the world, with the conflicted super hero coming to the rescue to later find his place in society. And all the while with no thought to the deaths of many others in the pursuit of said villains.

I missed, or not, the lack of red undies due to how well fitting the suit was otherwise. 😉

Stellar cast. This doesn’t always equal good movie, but it worked here. Loved them all, but have to agree with one review that Lois Lane was not quite right. I didn’t really believe in her.

The snippets of history and flash backs done properly really make a movie and I liked their input here.

The ‘S’ as a symbol of hope I quite liked. Now if only I can remember the initial quote.

It didn’t feel like a superman movie. I felt the same way with the newest Bourne one. A good action flick but that’s about it.
It’s definitely worth watching, but if you a big fan of the old ones this may be too much ‘new’ for you.

One of my favourite bloggers, a self confessed comic freak, did his own review which you can read here.

Whatever your thoughts, it’s a good movie and well worth seeing on the big screen.

  2. 😀 Funny review, definitely. Of course, everything can be conquered with firepower, you know. Sometimes innocent people must perish if the villains are to be apprehended! 😉
